Safeguarding

Crosslight is committed to the safeguarding, care and nurture of everyone including all our clients, supporters, staff, volunteers and their families and households.

To support this commitment we will:

  • Promote a safe environment and culture

  • Recruit staff and volunteers safely, ensuring all necessary checks – including DBS checks - are made in line with our Recruitment Policy.

  • Respond promptly to any safeguarding concern or allegation

  • Share information about vulnerable adult and child safeguarding and good practice with staff and volunteers.

  • Provide suitable training at joining, and regularly thereafter on identifying, responding to, and reporting safeguarding concerns.

  • Share information about concerns with agencies who need to know, and involving those affected appropriately.

  • Offer appropriate support to those impacted by safeguarding issues

Recognising safeguarding and the need to protect

Crosslight recognises that all children and adults are at risk of abuse or harm. We recognise that those who suffer or are at risk of suffering abuse or harm require protection from this and that they may require direct support from Crosslight in accessing such protection. Crosslight is committed to ensuring that our organisation, staff and volunteers are equipped to recognise safeguarding concerns and respond appropriately to them.

Commitment to safeguarding policies and practices

Crosslight has a Safeguarding Policy which outlines our ethos and commitment towards safeguarding and details the practices and procedures to be followed by our staff and volunteers in response to safeguarding concerns or incidents. This policy is reviewed annually by the trustees.

Commitment to safeguarding training and development

Training is central to Crosslight’s safeguarding commitment. All new staff and volunteers complete safeguarding training as part of their induction. Thereafter all frontline staff complete refresher safeguarding training. Additional safeguarding training on areas identified as important, such as recording of safeguarding concerns, suicide prevention, and supporting clients with vulnerabilities is made available to staff and volunteers for whom it is relevant.

Recording and record keeping

Crosslight understands the importance of recording safeguarding incidents and concerns clearly and confidentially and this forms part of our safeguarding training. Such records are flagged and recorded on our secure case management system, and all records are reviewed weekly by the safeguarding team.

Safer Recruitment

Crosslight has a commitment to ensuring that unsuitable applicants (both employed and volunteer) are deterred from applying for posts within Crosslight and in ensuring that they are identified and rejected if they do so. We have approved a Recruitment Policy that sets out all the key elements of safer recruitment. Crosslight also has a clear DBS policy which shows which roles/posts require DBS checks at which levels.
